The second Presidential Debate left many confused when Trump was arguing with Biden about the US-Mexico border. He stated that many children are brought over the border via illegal means, by “very bad people” and “coyotes”. Now for the normal American, we get the term “coyote”. It’s been in our lexicon for decades, being a reference to the animal’s sneaky and sly behavior. But those on the left and on Twitter seemed to have a collective brain fart over this term. A simple Google search would have enlightened them to the term, but for those on Twitter, research of any kind is usually not on their minds.
Colloquially, a coyote (this usage originating from Mexican Spanish) is a person paid by migrants to illegally guide or assist them (migrant smuggling) across the U.S.–Mexico border.
