For years now, the left has been pushing the Overton Window further to the left. As many try to deny this claim, the evidence is clear – education, media, major cultural institutions and almost every tech platform have become ideologically possessed by the left. The same identarian politics that Hitler used to grasp his hold on Germany are being used, unironically, by the left at large.
The first sign was the demoralization of current American politics. This would include the removal of the electoral college, the last 4 years of the left’s inability to accept Trump’s electoral victory, and the now apparent disregard for voter security during the 2020 election. At first this isn’t very out of the norm. But after 4 years of constant unhealthy conspiracies coming from the left to delegitimize the president, these once innocuous claims about our electoral system and republic at large don’t feel as innocent as they once did.
This led to the second sign that should have warranted alarm (this was the canary in the coal mine) – the public and online struggle sessions used to perpetuate a new cultural phenomenon (not so new after all) – Cancel Culture. Cancel culture refers to the popular practice of withdrawing support for (canceling) public figures and companies after they have done or said something considered objectionable or offensive. Cancel culture is generally discussed as being performed on social media in the form of group shaming.
The model at work here is the Chinese Cultural Revolution, with its mass “struggle sessions” in which anyone deemed insufficiently sympathetic to the proletariat, or thought to have an excessively bourgeois lifestyle, was subjected to public humiliations, paraded through the streets, assaulted, denounced, and put on display as objects of scorn. Often these struggle sessions ended in false confessions and pleas for mercy.
Obviously, no one in America is being paraded through the streets against their will. But by rushing to profess their supposed guilt for racism, these people are admitting that they need publicly to affirm their allegiance to woke identity politics. This represents nothing less than the emergence of the same politics the Nazi’s ushered forth in the 1920’s and 1930’s. The same politics that led to Maoist China and the current concentration camps that dot the Chinese landscape. At first, declaring this fear was hyperbolic at best, and led to those who said it being labeled a conspiracy theorist. But now, as prominent leftwing politicians and celebrities echo the same sentiments of Nazi Germany, the idea that the left is repeating historical patterns doesn’t seem as far fetched.
As said in a previous article, Chris Hayes of MSNBC tweeted “The most humane and reasonable way to deal with all these people, if we survive this, is some kind of truth and reconciliation commission,” presumably in reference to those who aren’t in favor of masks or question their efficacy. Something you would only find in the book 1984. Not only that, but Keith Olbermann referred to President Trump as a “terrorist” and called for Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett and others to be “prosecuted and convicted and removed from our society” in a lengthy rant on his personal YouTube channel. This kind of radical and hate-filled rhetoric is cut from the same cloth the Nazi’s anti-Jewish positions and extermination mandates are cut from. In fact, not to be too on the nose, the Jewish community in NY are being specifically targeted by left-wing politicians, while they give cart blanche to Islamic groups and BLM activists. In fact, Cuomo was caught on Twitter using old photos from 2006 to justify his actions against the Jewish community.
After finding this while looking for the actual press conference video on Twitter, I am not taking this with a grain of salt. His actions seem to be targeting a specific community, while letting other demographics off the hook for gathering in large groups (which, mind you, are also rioting and destroying businesses). The hypocrisy is beyond any norm that most Americans would find acceptable. But most Americans have no idea that most of this is happening. And it’s this same scenario: low information citizens, with little knowledge of their leader’s true intentions (although now it can be found with a simple Google search via modern technology), and an environment charged by political change that leads to maniacs like Hitler taking power without any collective notice. We wonder “how did the Germans let it happen?” Well, here’s your answer. They just weren’t as informed as they should be. But in 2020, I feel, thanks to the bias of mainstream media and social media’s pervasiveness, the average voter is worse off than those in 1930s Germany.
Along with the obvious hyperbole being spread by left wing journalists and fervent activists, the racism and anti-white rhetoric is being taught to our children, with little backlash since those teaching it are doing so in secret. But now that parents are seeing into their kid’s classroom with remote classrooms, video and anecdotal evidence are surfacing that is exposing the massive bias and extreme racism being taught nation wide in elementary through high school.
The more the left pushes these extreme all-or-nothing politics, the closer they get to repeating the same mistakes and atrocities the Nazis enacted 100 years ago. New York’s political leaders are not adding to their defense either, with the oppression of Jews and Christians under the guise of COVID safety, all while letting large groups of Shia Muslims perform an ancient ritual to mourn Muhammad’s grandson. The signs are getting to the point of parody, leading to eye rolls and shrugs when warned of the similarities. The point is – Hitler was a leftist. His promises and ideas were communist in nature, and his obsession with race is on par with current left-wing ideology. Only today the left has control of almost every major cultural institution. And I fear that soon we will see a clearer pattern that mirrors Germany 100 years ago.
